Am I eligible?

Eligibility Requirements

  1. Applicants must meet at least one of the following:
  • Be a graduate or graduating senior from a Loudoun County public high school, OR
  • Be a direct descendant of an individual who attended Loudoun Training School or Douglass High School between 1935–1968, OR
  • Be a descendant of a student who attended an elementary school designated as “Colored” in Loudoun County prior to 1968.
  1.  Descendant Applicants
  • Eligible descendants include
    o   Biological children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, etc.
    o   Adopted and stepchildren
  • Applicants must:
    o    Be able to identify their ancestor(s)
    o    Name the school(s) attended by their ancestor.
  1. Academic Requirement
    Minimum GPA of 2.0 or higher
  2. Education Status
    Applicants must be one of the following:

    • A high school senior graduating this spring
    • A high school graduate
    • GED holder
    • A returning college/university student or vocational student
  3. Enrollment Requirement
  • You must provide proof of enrollment or acceptance into one of the following programs:
    • College or university
    • Community college
    • Vocational/technical school
    • Certificate program

What do I need to apply?

The applicant must complete the online application no later than April 30 at 11:59 PM. The application must include the following:

    • Completed the online application with a signature.
      The applicant must sign the Declaration.
    • Transcripts—IMPORTANT
    • Transcripts must include the high school or college name on them. If these transcripts do not have the high school or college name on them, the transcripts will NOT be accepted.
    • Unofficial transcripts are accepted.
  • An official GED certificate or official test score document will be accepted instead of a high school transcript.
  • Acceptance Letters
    • Acceptance letters are not required for continuing undergraduate or graduate students attending the same institution as listed on their submitted transcript.
    • College/University Students:
      • College Acceptance Letter—for a graduating high school student or high school graduate from a prospective institution.
      • University Acceptance Letter—for graduating or graduate college students that were accepted to a new master’s, doctorate, or graduate certificate program.
    • Community College, Vocational/Trade School, or Certificate Program Acceptance Letter—Must submit a letter of acceptance or proof of registration.

What happens after I submit my application?

  • Confirmation

A confirmation email will be sent within five (5) CALENDAR days from receipt.  If a confirmation email is not received contact is

  • Committee Review

All applications will be validated and scored by the LDAA Scholarship Committee.

  • Applicant Notification

All applicants will receive a decision via email by June 15, 2026.

  • Award Recipient Requirement

The scholarship recipient must submit via email their Student ID number, address of institution, and the institution’s guidelines for accepting outside scholarships, if applicable.  The applicant has (7) CALENDAR days from the date of the notification letter to respond to the request for information.  If the required information is not received, the applicant risks forfeiting the scholarship award.

  • LDAA Cookout

The recipients or their representatives are invited to attend the LDAA Cookout on July 11, 2026.

  • Receiving Funds

All scholarship awards will be disbursed to the selected institution/school by no later than August 1, 2026. Recipients will receive a copy of the letter sent to the institution/school.

  • Community College, Vocational/Trade School, or Certificate Program Acceptance Letter or Proof or Registration

Transcripts must list the high school or college/university for verification.

Returning college students do not submit high school transcripts or college letters of acceptance.

Submit your application online and include a transcript, letter of acceptance, and essay question.
